This book is a FANTASTIC resource for whatever elementary ELA teacher. At that place's a brief introduction at the commencement explaining what guided reading is and why it'due south so important, just the bulk of the book dives into the details of the unlike lesson components and materials that make up the lesson based on the student's reading level. Some of the data overlaps from chapter to chapter, but aside from slightly tedious it didn't bother me (ex when I commencement purchased this book I was planning on teaching Kindergarten, and was going to focus on the Pre A and Emergent Reader chapter. In the eye of reading this book I got a telephone call from my principal saying I was moving to first course, and so I also read the Early Reader chapter once I found that out. Since the principles build on each other, I found a lot of repeated text, but clearly that text I however felt was relevant because I gave the volume 5/5 stars).

There is an appendix in the dorsum that contains copies of lesson plan formats and cess guides to utilise. At that place's also the code to access the website containing videos so you can see some of these practices done in existent time with real students. The terminal chapter of the book contains comprehension strategies that can be used in the lesson portion of the guided reading time.

I'g excited to implement this new researched based strategy as I believe it volition really help the students at my school grow and succeed.

This book provides a practical structure for guided reading at various reading levels, and decent comprehension pedagogy points to focus on. What's more than - The pre-a plan for teaching letters and sounds is not systematic phonics - and it'southward far also little explicit instruction. Only a bad idea to locate phonics instruction in guided reading and await it to be plenty for almost students. Delight don't do this. Become Fundations or Reading Mastery or 95% Group Lessons and teach it whole grade every day. Reinforce in small groups.

If you are new to guided reading instruction, if you are in college pursuing an Early Childhood degree, or if your schoolhouse does not provide guided reading resources, this is the book for you. It clearly defines expectations for guided reading, how to initiate, and what to implement with each group at each level. It includes resources and references worth checking out equally well!
